Science Week at Kindlehill

September 4, 2015

On Tuesday 18th August parents, grandparents and friends of Kindlehill came to join us for a day to bring special focus to science during the National Science Week.  We invited the scientists in our community to offer a display or hands on workshop for students. The classes also showcased some of the work they do in the science curriculum.

Marshall (Huon’s dad) told me that a main factor leading to his career in science, was his love of camping!  Nature, exploration and wonder. Now that is a recipe very familiar to the students in our school from kindy to high school.

Science on Tuesday was a morning to make science VISIBLE. In our parent community there are quite a few scientists from across a broad spectrum.

The Chief Scientist and his department, are trying to encourage more young people to go into science. It seems the number of students taking science at HSC level has dropped. Our school event, Science on Tuesday, held during Science Week, is perhaps one small but   important way to ensure our children and young people can see just how broad the scientific community is,  how wide  the field of science and something of how it is useful in our world.
