As a non religious school, at Kindlehill Steiner School the seasons and cycles of nature become an important anchor and reason for us to celebrate… especially when the days are short and the weather is chilly.
This past winters night solstice celebration was one of the most heart warming yet!
The evening began at our local Ganya Shed where Uncle Lex welcomed us with toasty fires and warm smiles. At the Ganya Shed the children lit the multitude of beautiful handcrafted lanterns and we started to make our way up to school.
More toasty fires, smoking ceremonies and tables lit with beautiful lanterns, dolls and crafts awaited us at the school.
The school twinkled with lights as Uncle Flinn Donovan welcomed us with his digeridoo and the high schoolers spun fire and poy in a welcome display that left stars in our eyes.
Opening the celebrations was Erica and a Welcome to Country beautifully shared from our high school student Jaycie.
We made our way inside with an incredibly packed house where primary school students sung with spirit and joy.
And lastly, the last performance from the whole school orchestra was incredible as many of the students, parents and community from far and wide pulled off what seemed like the most joyous rendition of Walking On Sunshine I’ve ever heard. Well done to Elizabeth our fearless music leader who pulled together the brass, strings, wind and percussion with panache! It was just sensational and had everyone bopping and smiling from ear to ear.
If there ever was a way to bring back the light and sunshine, that certainly was it!
What a night! Thank you to all who came, celebrated, sung, danced and cheered.
What an incredible community we make. Here’s to the return of longer days and more sunshine.

Kindlehill School is a K-10 Steiner School that sits on a hill above the Wentworth Falls Lake, in the Blue Mountains, NSW. We are an independant school working creatively and in a contemporary way, out of the foundation of Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy for education.
