Class 3-4 Woodwork

December 11, 2024

In our weekly Woodwork lessons, the children have been busily crafting some bird nesting boxes for our school. They have been measuring, sawing, bolting, screwing and sanding their projects over the past 8 weeks under Derek’s expert guidance.

In our last lesson together, we chose trees that were an appropriate height and in a safe location for future birds to nest in and helped Derek to hoist a bird box into a tree.

We have been working on lots of different ways to attract birds into our garden at Kindlehill, from making bird feeders, to planting flowers and putting out water for them to drink. We hope that these latest additions to the playground will welcome a variety of birdlife into our school.

The wonders of woodwork in a Steiner school! The children work on projects that are both beautiful and functional- they are wonderful to look at and they serve a real purpose. This gives meaning to our work and allows the class to really connect with what they are doing- knowing that they are creating something that will be a part of the school for years to come.
