Class 5 – 6 What TREASURE! Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum

June 23, 2022

Last Monday Class 5 and 6 went to Bathurst to visit the sweetest little museum in the world. Bold claim. It’s the Fossil and Mineral Museum and houses the Somerville Collection of rocks and minerals.

But more than beautiful rocks and minerals presented in beautiful cabinets more spectacular than VIVID, was the informational powerhouse that was our Museum Guide. She knew everything or at least A LOT about ROCKS and had the talent of bringing her knowledge to the children in a gentle, engaging, non-gimmicky way which had the class and me spellbound and entranced. It wasn’t fancy or flashy, in fact quite humble but just pure passion for her subject and the earnest desire to share her love for the planet with children.

And really who knew MINERALS could be so captivating. Never too old to learn and never too old to teach it would seem.
