How can you Love a God of Death? March 2021

March 22, 2021

Class 2-3 have spent the first part of the term immersed in the great stories of the Ancient Indian gods, and their relationship to the people – in devotion – ‘I participate with the gods in making a world of order, love, humility, respect; in creating, sustaining and, yes, dissolution as well.’ Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva; Sarasvati, Lakshmi, Parvati; Ganesh, Agni, Yama; Vishnu’s earthly incarnations, including Krishna; the Ramayana…. For good measure, we are following up with stories of Siddhattha during meal times.

We were very fortunate to have parents in the class with a vibrant Hindu connection. Samuel brought his friend, Diviyatma, and together they led us in chanting, a fire ceremony and in dance (I think we lifted the roof off the school!). Serena and Sanjaya transformed the classroom into a temple, and we had ceremony, chanted, sang, danced, and ate together! Thank you so much for these amazing experiences for the children.

At the same time, this was an English lesson, where through dictation and our own writing, we made leaps forward in writing in our own words, phonics and spelling.
