On Tuesday 17th June, High School and Class 6 are organising a hot chocolate fundraiser in support of a campaign by Muzafar, a Hazara refugee, who is visiting the mountains to raise awareness around the importance of girls’ education in Afghanistan and other places. You can learn more about Muzafar here: Watch Watandar, My Countryman | Stream free on SBS On Demand
The hot chocolate and sweet treat stall will be held at morning tea. $3 for Hot choc or a treat, $5 for both.
We would also be very happy for donations of cakes and sweet treats for Tuesday. Please bring them to the kitchen.
We will also view the film, Staging Post which features Muzafar. While he was awaiting refugee status, he was also creating community and education in the midst of uncertainty and hardship for asylum seekers in Indonesia.
The Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group is hosting a fundraiser for Muzafar at the Mechanics Institute on Saturday evening: Ride for Education – 14 June at the Mechanics Institute, Lawson – BMRSG

“One of the most exciting things when working to support students, is when they find something that they are passionate about, that they really connect to. Finding ways to support their engagement and the depth of their learning is incredibly rewarding. As a teacher, it is a pleasure to be working in an environment where creativity, critical thinking and a real sense of love for the world is valued and imbues all you do”.
