In term 4, 2024, Georgia’s Year 7 Drama class at Kindlehill presented a very special production of Reasons to Stay Inside, a funny and insightful play about friendship, resilience, and social anxiety by Australian playwright, Katy Warner. The production prompted deep and positive conversations and the common response from parents was “everyone should see this play!” So…
Kindlehill has partnered with Headspace, and Georgia and her now-year-8s are remounting the play for schools and families. In addition to touring the play to local schools, they are presenting two performances at Wentworth Falls School of Arts and they’d love you to join them!
Warner has personal experience of this kind of crippling anxiety, and this story is her way of throwing light on it. It’s to her very great credit that she never gets “grown-up” about it; “The Thing” never becomes agoraphobia or the other clinical conditions that Pedro may be suffering. The story remains a kids’ one, and salvation remains in their hands. – David Zampatti, The West Australian, 2016
