On Wednesday 14th August, Kindlehill students from classes 5 to 11, will have a chance to participate in a slam poetry workshop with Word Travels founder and Kindlehill parent, Miles Merrill (Emerald’s Dad). The workshop will include writing poetry and working up a piece for performance.
Slam Poetry is all about powerfully finding voice and storytelling. It is about courage and connection and performing for an audience. It is also about listening, making space to hear the voices of those around us and the diversity of perspectives they hold.
The workshop will be followed by a community Poetry Slam on Friday 16th August 6 – 8pm. Please come along, bring a poem, a story or a song (anything you can perform without instruments and props), or join the audience and cheer on your friends!
The local Poetry Slam Heat will be held at the Cultural Centre in Katoomba on the 22nd August 6:30pm. Blue Mountains – APS Heat (NSW) — Australian Poetry Slam. The winner goes on to compete in the next heat. It a great opportunity to hear local voices and to get your voice out there.
