Last Friday was a celebration of our Creative Arts program. Music teacher Adam, with the beautiful support of musician Sarah Humphreys, gave our students a real taste of being in the “band”. Year 7’s delivered 2 pieces with soulful singing and rocking out electrics. Year 8’s piece featured electrics as well as orchestral instruments, a blend of rock/jazz/classical with subtle threads skillfully woven into an entrancing piece. Year 9 punched it out loud and dynamic on guitars.
Funky music was followed by a sobering contemporary version of Antigone, a story written 2,000 years ago but could have been written for our times. This performance was by the Drama Elective (from Years 8-9), and they delivered a powerfully relevant message with charismatic performances. Drama teacher Georgia is a powerhouse of inspiration and dedication, what she brings out in our students individually and as a group is quite something.
My sense is this will be a night we will talk about for some time to come!
