High School Music at Kindlehill is a rich and inclusive programme where a love of music is encouraged. Years 7 and 8 explore a diverse programme of music genres from Renaissance to Pop Music and Years 9 and 10 can expand their skills and music theory through a wide range of different music styles from around the world.
The school is equipped with an excellent range of music technology, including hardware and software on both iPad and iMac computers. All students learn how to compose on both traditional orchestral instruments alongside learning how to play the piano keyboard. Regular classroom performance encourages students to listen and reflect on their learning. Cross-curricular opportunities often support exciting live performance music collaborations with English texts such as ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and musical theatre in Drama.
Students demonstrate and share their knowledge each term through their understanding of whole class lectures and various related peer learning research activities or assignment writing. A balance between academic and skills-based learning is encouraged each lesson. Regular feedback is given to enable each student to engage with classroom objectives whilst exploring their own musical aspirations and potential.
