Through their History studies, young people develop a practical understanding of the world and how one can live responsibly in it. Empathy is cultivated through the study of perspectives and contestability. Biographies provide inspiration to meet the challenges and understand the complexities of our world.
Students are supported to develop an ethical stance regarding issues arising out of an historical context, that are still in need of addressing in our own times. They recognise that their own privilege and capacity for freedom and independence is inter-related with the freedom and rights of others.
Our society today is shaped by how we interpret historical events. The Aboriginal poet, Oodgeroo Noonuccal says the past is not behind us, “the past is all around us and within us.” Through History, a reflective and considered view of the world is cultivated. Students are inspired to make choices for their lives alongside those who in the past and present, work for the greater good of all humanity.
Originally a high school teacher in the public system, Lynn has also taught at TAFE and in community settings. In the Steiner context, she has previously been a kindergarten and primary school teacher. In addition to her roles as Chair and Principal, Lynn is High School Co-Ordinator, teaches Geography and History, and co-ordinates the Outdoor Education Programme. Lynn has a B. Arts (UWA) and a Dip. Ed. (WA Secondary Teachers College).
