Like a good book, maths teaching needs to entice the participant to want to know more. At Kindlehill we follow the NSW syllabus for the Australian Curriculum, and the students use textbooks and software such as Maths Online and GeoGebra. We are lucky to have small class sizes and on three afternoons per week individual students receive ten minutes of support or extension or can request an individual tutorial.
Weekly homework alternates between textbook exercises and completing online exercises, and different approaches are explored to help those students struggling with time management. Homework club runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school, providing further opportunities for support or extension.
In addition to knowledge and mathematical skills, we aim for the students to gain an appreciation of mathematics and see that skills and problem-solving techniques learned in class reach into many parts of their lives. Our final aim is that each student leaves a lesson a little more curious, a little lighter and a little happier than when they entered the room.
Kindlehill School is a K-10 Steiner School that sits on a hill above the Wentworth Falls Lake, in the Blue Mountains, NSW. We are an independant school working creatively and in a contemporary way, out of the foundation of Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy for education.
