Refugee Support Concert/Dance, March 2019

March 22, 2019

This was a wonderful event with something for everyone. Asad, who is a Hazara from Afghanistan, shared his story of the perilous journey from his home country to his arrival in Australia.

George Najarian from Syria, spoke of the day his sister’s school was bombed in Aleppo, the day his mother said, “That is it, we are leaving…”.  In his warm and generous way, he invited all Australians to greet refugees with friendliness, this he said was the most important thing we could do. Listening to their personal stories brings humanity to what is often hard to grasp when we speak about the refugee crisis and how we should manage it.

The rest of the program was a feast of music! Kaziah, King Curly and Murrai were the featured bands and there was also the beautiful musical performances from the High School. We raised approximately $1000 for the Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group!
